The Representative Assembly (RA) of the National Education Association will be held July 3-7 in Philadelphia, PA. The RA consists of about 7,000 delegates and is the primary legislative and policy making body of the Association. If you are interested in serving as a delegate to represent ITA at the 2024 NEA RA, please go to cta.org/racandidacy  to file your candidacy with CTA. In addition, please submit your ITA Local Delegate Declaration of Candidacy Form.

The NEA Representative Assembly is the largest democratic deliberative assembly in the world. California sends more than 1,000 delegates to the NEA RA each summer. During this annual meeting, CTA members help set policy and chart the direction of NEA business through participation in various committees, constituencies, caucuses, and leadership groups.

Who goes to NEA’s Annual Meeting and Representative Assembly?
The Representative Assembly (RA) comprises roughly 8,000 delegates representing state and local affiliates. These delegates are elected by their local and state Associations and represent preK-16 educators, including education support professionals, student members, retired members, and other segments of the united education profession.

What is the RA?
The RA is the primary legislative and policy-making body of the National Education Association (NEA) and derives its powers from, and is responsible to, the membership. Various committees, constituencies, caucuses, leadership groups, and delegates from state and local affiliates gather to set policy and chart the direction of NEA business. The RA is the largest democratic deliberative assembly in the world and adheres to Robert’s Rules of Order, except as otherwise specified in NEA governing documents.
