Representative Council
Rep Council is made up of Executive Board members and School Site Representatives. Meetings are held monthly by Rep Council to discuss policy-making decisions as it pertains to ITA and the schools each site rep represents. Each school site or special faculty unit shall be represented on the Rep Council.

Executive Board
The Executive Board provides leadership and oversight for the association between larger governing body meetings. It is responsible for carrying out the direction and policies established by the membership and Representative Council, managing the association’s ongoing business, and making decisions necessary to support the organization and its members.

State Council
What do they do?
CTA’s top policy-making body is the State Council of Education. Meeting four times a year, the council’s nearly 800 delegates elect the three state-level CTA officers and the CTA Board of Directors. Council also sets forth CTA policy, develops legislation, and makes recommendations in general elections.
What does that mean?
Any time “CTA” takes action or decides on a policy stance, it’s discussed, investigated through committees, debated, and voted on by this body. The voice of California’s classroom teachers is captured through these actions.
Why does it matter?
Each delegate on State Council is assigned to a committee. The delegates (teachers) research and debate any proposed policy that affects school-aged children, teachers, or education as a whole. Once the committee makes a recommendation to the larger body, it is discussed and debated, and then a stance is voted on and a position is officially taken.
What does that mean?
Any time “CTA” takes action or decides on a policy stance, it’s discussed, investigated through committees, debated, and voted on by this body. The experience of classroom teachers is voiced, heard, and applied to CTA’s stance on the topic/policy.
Remember, YOU are the union, classroom teachers are the union.
